Lockdown Diaries Nominee#45 Pandemic Diaries 2.0- JiaXin Lee

The pandemic has started so abruptly, by just a blink of an eye, the world has been reshuffled, a whole new game staring over again. As the pandemic sleeks beyond us — throughout the globe, cities are being locked down, confining everyone in their homes.
Four months of lockdown, a hundred and twenty-one days, totally being restrained to leave the house, yet, to my biggest surprise, my journey through the lockdown with my family had been worthwhile. There were depressing times, there were the happiest moments of the year, but what made this lockdown special is that I have the opportunity to get “stuck ” with my family. I am very grateful for it, as I know that some people are totally isolated, alone.

The pandemic had leaded to the temporary closure of schools, and we were made to learn through online classes. The idea of “online learning” sounded cool as it was my first time being exposed to such a study method in my whole life. To me, online classes were enjoyable just like going to school. Although my classmates and I can’t see each other during the lockdowns, we enjoyed immensely during our classes. Our teachers were being more able to focus on each of us during online classes, and there were fun times like when we sang birthday songs through Zoom to wish those who were going to spend their birthdays at home.
Furthermore, I also had the opportunity to spend more time on my hobbies. I’ve read a bunch of motivational books, and even learned how to bake! I had used my time to the most and I don’t regret it at all. I’ve had so much fun spending my time with my family, and I am extremely contented and I have cherished every moment with them.

One of the most unforgettable events that I have been through during the pandemic lockdown was the departure of my grandmother. She was the loveliest woman, and I really do miss her. It all happened so fast, sometimes I think that her passing away, leaving us forever is just surreal. I would never, ever, forget the moment her coffin being pushed into the crematorium. No one wanted to cry, at least not shedding tears together at a one-metre distance. There were no brief hugs either. Everything was just brief and simple.

The pandemic has written a new chapter for me. Valuable lessons were being taught, tears were being shed, but love is also being spread. The pandemic is not just about us, there are doctors, nurses, and even the guards standing at the mall checking for body temperatures. Everyone is contributing and risking their lives for us. Everyone counts. We shall get through this together and will get through this together.
