Studying abroad is an incredible experience, but it can also be difficult to be so far away from home and your comfort zone. It’s difficult enough to be a student, let alone hundreds of miles away from your family and friends, the city you grew up in, and those delicious home-cooked meals.

To make the most of your time abroad, since it goes by so quickly and you’ll be back home before you know it, here are some recommendations to help de-stress, feel connected to home and have the most fun possible.

1) Talk to other people who share your interests –
You are most likely living or studying abroad among others who are in the same situation and experiencing the same feelings as you. Sharing your feelings is always preferable to keeping them bottled up inside, specifically when you can talk with someone who understands precisely what you’re going through.

2) Do activities you enjoy at home –
You may be halfway across the world, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring a little part of your home with you everywhere you go. Prepare your mother’s excellent meal, go to breakfast with your pals on Sundays, take up a hobby, or join a club. Do whatever you like to do at home to make the new place seem more like home.

3) Stay in touch –
It’s critical to recall your roots when adjusting to a new environment. Call, check in on, and stay in touch with your friends and family back home regularly. Ask them about their life, tell them about your problems, all the new things you’ve discovered, and all the intriguing people you’ve met. Communication is key here. Make them a part of your life as much as they were previously. Reduce the distance and strengthen the relationship. You learn to be more resourceful and come up with strategies to balance your study, social, and personal lives.

4) Find your Native/Comfort Food –
No matter where you’re from, you can almost always get a taste of home at Indian restaurants and chains around the country, which provide delectable cuisine that will take you back to your childhood with its warm, comforting meals. Carter’s Blue takes pleasure in duplicating real Lebanese, Portuguese, and spicy African meals seen in Nando’s, Mia Cucina, and a variety of other franchises serving rich, delectable Italian food. It’s perfectly great to find comfort in your country’s food and to observe and recognize these distinctions, but don’t stop yourself from trying new things.

When you’ve decided to leave your home and start on an adventure in a foreign nation, remember to give yourself time to absorb what it has to offer. Have an open mind, realistic expectations, and a positive attitude as you prepare for the time of your life!
