Increase in Applicants to top universities for the class of 2025

Everyone is drowning in uncertainty, given the current global situation. However, one can’t wait forever wondering what next and hence thousand of aspiring students are on their way to apply to colleges abroad and start their degrees. Top schools and colleges have been empathetic towards the challenges faced by the global student community and hence have relaxed several admission criteria and as a result, colleges have seen a tremendous increase in the number of applications.

Harvard being one of the most esteemed university have received over 57000 applications for class 2025, a 42% increase since last year. While MIT received a 66% increase with 33240 applications and NYU received over 100000 applications. One of the main reasons for this increase is due to the SAT and ACT requirements waived off. Students now feel that they have a better chance to submit their profiles without the test scores.

The question which arises here is how will be the selection process if the test scores aren’t considered?

As the competition is stiff and the admit rates are low. For example, Harvard’s admit rate has dropped to 3.4% while MIT has dropped to 4%, Universities are looking at diverse profiles and students with a holistic background. They will be considering past academic records of secondary and high school, extracurricular and co-curricular achievements, social impact work among many other things.
