Columbia University is a private Ivy League research university and is the fifth oldest institute of higher learning in US. It was founded in 1754 as King’s College by royal charter of King George II of England. It is one of the nine colonial colleges founded prior to the Declaration of Independence.The university is organized into twenty schools, including Columbia College, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of General Studies. The university has many notable alumni including the five founding fathers of the United States. It is located in the Upper Manhattan region of New York City in New York, United States.
