Initially named as Rhode Island University, it was renamed to Brown after Nicholas Brown Jr. for his immense gift in 1804. Nicknamed Bear, its colours are brown, white and cardinal. The motto of the university is “In Deo Speramus ” (Latin for “In God We Hope”). It is one of the prestigious Ivy League institutions of higher education in the US established on September 15, 1764. The main campus of Brown is 143 acres wide and is located in Providence, Rhode Island, United States.
