SMU was established on 12 January 2000 and is located in the downtown area of Singapore. It is the third autonomous university in Singapore. The university provides broad-based business programmes modelled after the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The Singapore Management University follows a course credit system similar to that used in most American universities.

What SMU is Looking for

  1. Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree.

  2. One of the following is required : SAT (previously known as SAT I /SAT Reasoning) or ACT (American College Test), including the writing test or IELTS or TOEFL.

  3. Interview for shortlisted applicants. Law shortlisted applicants must also take a writing test.

MBA Application


  1. SAT (new SAT - from March 2016) : A minimum total score of 1,350 with at least 650 each for evidence-based reading and writing. Essay is not required.

  2. ACT : A minimum composite score 29, with at least 27 each for both reading and writing

  3. IELTS : A minimum overall score of 7.0 with reading score of at least 7.0 and writing score of at least 6.5 .

  4. TOEFL iBT (internet-based test) : A minimum score of 93, with at least 22 each for both reading and writing.

  5. TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) : A minimum score of 583, with at least 5.5 for TWE (Test of Written English) and 50 for reading.
