Career in Oil and Natural Gas Sector

When you think of the oil and gas sector, oil rigs offshore and using heavy machinery may come to mind. For some, this is a perfect work environment (especially if you hate office life) with lots of variation. However, many jobs in oil and gas are based in labs and offices, so you have a good choice of which work environment you prefer, which a lot of jobs can’t offer.

In India, there is lot of jobs in PSUs such as ONGC, IOCL and Bharat Petroleum for those looking at job security.

The Petroleum Ministry is responsible for exploration, excavation, supply, distribution, marketing and pricing of petroleum including natural gas and petroleum products, setting up of oil refineries including lube plants, regulation of additives for petroleum and petroleum products, lube blending and greases, planning, development and regulation of oilfield services etc. and for the monitoring of the various entities to ensure that they conform to the applicable laws.

India is expected to be one of the largest contributors to non-OECD petroleum consumption growth globally.

Construction Engineers
Manufacturing and construction jobs in the oil and gas industry focus on manufacturing mechanical equipment and pipelines. Although they make up a very small percentage of the industry’s employment, civil engineers help design the way oil and gas is taken out of the ground. Engineers create plans that detail how and where the drilling should take place.

Petroleum Engineers
Petroleum engineers with prospective talents have many job opportunities in eminent oil and gas companies. They ensure the completion of drilling and extraction operations. They are also placed in charge of implementing efficient recovery techniques.

Surveyors make exact measurements and determine property boundaries. Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth’s surface for engineering, mapmaking, mining, land evaluation, construction, and other purposes.

PSUs offer salaries as per Sixth Pay commission with additional perks and benefits. At entry level, one can expect a salary of around INR 3.5 to 6 Lakhs per Annum.
